Five Self-Care Practices For a Busy Schedule
The most common barrier I find for people who want to improve their self-care practices is time (or lack thereof). Here are five self-care practices that are accessible, even for the busiest of us.
Move Your body
Okay, so maybe you’re not able to workout for hours a day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything. Yes, movement can be doing a full workout or going for a run. But, it can also be doing a quick stretch in the morning, taking a lap between meetings, or doing a 5-10 minute workout. Bringing movement to your body can help you regulate your nervous system, improve your energy levels, and help with sleep.
Get Fresh Air
Get outside if you can (and if you can’t, bring the outside in). Getting fresh air can help you manage stress and decrease anxiety. So, do your best to spend some time outside each day, even if you have to bring your work with you. And if you can’t get outside, crack a window to get fresh air in your space.
Stay Nourished
Our basic needs can often fall to the wayside when life gets busy. This is a great time to be intentional about nourishing yourself. Keep water close to you and remind yourself to drink throughout the day. Same goes for food–try to pack nourishing snacks and meals that you enjoy so you can have the energy you need to get through the day.
Listen to Something
What do you enjoy listening to? Whether it be music, podcasts, or audiobooks, there is so much that you can enjoy, even if you don’t have much time or space. If you spend time commuting, consider downloading your favorite podcast, songs, or audiobook before your travels. Or pop on your favorite thing while cleaning or cooking dinner.
Spice Up Your Routine
See where you can turn the ordinary into extraordinary. What are things you can add to your usual tasks to make them more enjoyable? This can be getting your favorite products for your showers, lighting candles or diffusing your favorite essential oils in your workspace, or adding things to your environment that make you smile.
